When do I need a Nuki Bridge?

The Nuki Bridge brings your Nuki devices such as the Smart Lock or the Opener online. This means you can control and manage them remotely at any time using the Nuki app. With the Nuki Bridge, you can lock and unlock your door on the go, view the log or assign access authorizations. The Nuki Bridge also enables integration into various smart home systems.

Remote access and management of your devices is possible üvia the Nuki app or optionally üvia a browser in Nuki Web (registration required). The Nuki Bridge also provides developers with the basis for a variety of connection options with their smart home.

The following products are compatible with the Nuki Bridge:

Füor the Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro, you generally do not need a Nuki Bridge. The WiFi function is already integrated in our Pro products. If you still want to integrate your Nuki Smart Lock 3.0 Pro into special Smart Home solutions, you can of course connect it to the Nuki Bridge.

If you do not want to control your Nuki devices remotely, you do not need a Bridge. In this case, the Smart Lock üis operated via Bluetooth.

What are the requirements for the Bridge?

The Nuki Bridge requires a few prerequisites in order to function properly and to be able to control Nuki devices remotely. First of all, the Bridge should be placed as close as possible to the Smart Lock, as a distance of less than 5 meters enables an ideal connection between Bridge and Smart Lock or Opener.

It is important to choose a socket in which the Bridge can remain permanently plugged in. The Nuki Bridge can be used with all conventional sockets with a power supply of 110 to 240 volts.

In addition, Wi-Fi with a 2.4 GHz signal must be available within range of the Bridge, as the Bridge requires a wireless connection to the Internet.

Can I connect multiple devices to one Nuki Bridge?

Yes, in principle several Nuki devices (Smart Lock, Opener) can be connected to one Nuki Bridge at the same time. However, it is important to note that each device must be within Bluetooth range (maximum 5 meters) of the Bridge.

Can I also manage my devices on my PC?

Yes, if your devices are connected to a Bridge and are online, you can also manage them via your PC. To do this, you must first activate Nuki Web. With Nuki Web, you have access to all the functions that are also available in the Nuki app and can use them via a browser. Nuki Web also makes it easy to integrate your Smart Lock into your existing smart home Öcosystem.

How secure is my data handled?

Your data is treated very securely and NUKI respects your privacy. You do not need a user account to use the Nuki Smart Lock or Opener, nor is your data stored on the Nuki servers. This applies both to the use of Nuki within Bluetooth range and via WLAN if you have connected your Nuki device to a Nuki Bridge. Whenever possible, your data is only processed on your end devices.

Of course, you can also use our Nuki Web Cloud service, which requires the caching of data on our servers.

Do I need the Nuki Bridge for Apple HomeKit control?

The Nuki Bridge is not absolutely necessary for using HomeKit, but the functions of the Home app are limited compared to the Nuki app and there are fewer options available. However, it depends on your individual use case.

If you want to use all the functions of the Smart Lock, we recommend using the Nuki Bridge in combination with HomeKit.

Here are some application examples:

• Using the functions of the Nuki app If you want to use all the functions of the Smart Lock (e.g. managing access authorizations), we recommend using the Nuki Bridge. This allows you to control your Smart Lock easily and with all functions üvia the Nuki app.
• Parallel use of Bridge and HomeKit Of course, you can also use both options in parallel so that you can access your Smart Lock with the Nuki app üvia the Bridge and with the Home app üvia your control center within Bluetooth range.
• Remote control of the Smart Lock To be able to control your Smart Lock via HomeKit while on the move, you need a bridge replacement as a control center (e.g. Apple HomePod, iPad or Apple TV), which must be connected to the Smart Lock via Bluetooth.
